The battle against ageing skin is well and truly on – fighting wrinkles with cream, attacking dry skin with moisturiser, and tackling spots with exfoliating scrubs.
One tactic that is often overlooked however is taking care of the outside from the inside. No I don’t mean you should start making smoothies with your lovely creams and scrubs, but look at natural ways we can help take better care of our skin.
Here are a few tips to help you look after your skin naturally.
Tip #1
Skin is the largest organ of the human body and our body is made up of two-thirds water; can you see where I’m going with this? Water plays a major role in our body and drinking closer to three litres a day can have amazing benefits to clearer skin.
Tip #2
Did you know 75% of your skin is made of collagen? This is a protein, which the body will synthesise from amino acids found in the protein from your food. Having a quality protein source with each meal will help ensure you get the right amino acids to build and repair skin cells, keeping them healthy. Good sources include unprocessed meats, nut, seeds, quinoa, eggs, lentils, fish and beans.
Tip #3
How often when the sun comes out do we take flight to the great outdoors seeking that lovely tan? Sunblock’s job is to prevent the UV rays getting to the skin, yet we always end up burnt causing damage to our skin and increasing the risk of skin cancers. Green tea has been proven to work from the inside creating a natural defence against UV rays with antioxidants preventing skin damage, and it also has natural anti-inflammatory properties.
Have a look at the natural ingredients of your face cream. A very common product is coconut oil. This wonderful and tasty fruit truly has amazing health benefits for the skin both internally and externally. The list of benefits is a long one but adding this delicious alternative oil to your diet can help with anti ageing, clearer skin and hydration.
Tip #5
Some tasty fruits that contain Vitamin C will assist with keeping you looking younger include kiwi, cantaloupe melon, tomatoes, berries and papaya. Vitamin C is one of the antioxidant vitamins fighting free radicals, which cause cell damage. Vitamin C also helps with the production of collagen! It is a water-soluble vitamin so the body doesn’t store it, therefore it needs topping up throughout the day.
Tip #6
Things to avoid that will have a negative effect on your skin include smoking, which will cause ageing. High stress has a severe adverse effect on the body; try meditation, incense, a bath, or just relaxing with music or a book. Processed foods and takeaways have a lot of additives, preservatives and general rubbish in them that will work against you, causing things like spots.
So if you want to look after your skin naturally, give these tips a try and see the results for yourself.
